Type 5: Nationalism and Immigration Bias
Phrases like "must be a U.S. citizen" (when the legal requirement is simply authorization to work in the U.S.), "no visa sponsorship" placed prominently at the top of the listing, or requirements for U.S.-based education credentials all introduce bias against immigrants and international candidates.
While companies have legitimate reasons for some of these requirements, the way they are presented often goes beyond legal necessity into exclusionary signaling.

Type 8: Elitism and Credential Bias
Requiring a four-year degree for roles that do not functionally need one is perhaps the most widespread form of bias in job descriptions.
